Apparently, today is National Popcorn Day...
Popcorn makes me think of going to the MOVIES! But Popcorn and 80’s Movies… now that’s the perfect combo!
My mind started wandering…
What does popcorn make you think of?
I started thinking of the connection between Popcorn and 80’s Movies yesterday which caused me to reflect on my favorite 80’s movies.
It was one of those times when my thoughts wandered all over the place and I suddenly had one of those aha moments!
What 80’s Movies Have In Common…
Most of “our” best-loved 80’s movies have similar storylines.
The main character has a dilemma, has had a rough life, or perhaps lacks self-confidence.
We sympathize with them and as we continue watching, we hope they will figure things out…
And 9 times out of 10, they do!
They figure things out!
Problem solved!
Let’s think about this:
- The Breakfast Club students survive Saturday Detention,
- “Poor” Ferris makes it through almost getting caught playing hooky from school,
- Vivian gets rescued from her life on the streets,
- Ren brings music and dancing back to the small town he moves to and finally makes friends,
- Samantha finally gets noticed by Jake and they fall in love,
- and most importantly… Johnny saves Baby from being in the corner!
THANK GOODNESS!
(Oh, the drama!)
And of course, that’s only listing a FEW of our favorite characters!
Popcorn and 80’s Movies, anyone?
Okay, so maybe life isn’t a movie…
Maybe life isn’t a movie but there is always hope for that happy ending, that problem solved and that love and connection we are seeking.
We can work things out (because we are smart and we are strong!).
Perhaps we need to work a little harder, leave the house a little more, and have more intentional interaction with others.
Maybe we need a day of Popcorn and 80’s Movies!
As Vivian would say…
Remember the classic line in Pretty Woman when Vivian is saying goodbye to Kit DeLuca?
She says, “Take care of You”.
That’s my request and wish for you today, friend!
“Take care of you”, and do something you enjoy today.
Fondly,
Kim
