Call Your Mom Today.
I just spent several days with my mom in Napa, California for my high school reunion. We have lived “away” for the last four years and it is always nice to go home, but the best part is seeing my family.
Staying in my mom’s home is always nice, but this time I felt more aware of how much I AM my mom in the loving things I do for my children.
For example, I was working hard on my laptop in my old room when mom peeked in to say, “You’d better eat some breakfast.” This made me smile and giggle to myself.
I do that to my “kids” constantly! Destiny is 22 and Tyler is 18. They know they should put nutrition into their bodies. However, I still feel the need to encourage them to eat, and in Tyler’s case, I usually offer to “make” him a sandwich. (haha!). Tyler knows I’ll usually do it and for me, it means he’ll eat something a little more substantial than a quick snack!
This trip reminded that I get that from my mom, and I enjoyed that little reflection.
Then there was the surprise gift of cute fall hand towels. That is totally my mom! Mom has done that for years; a cute hand towel here, a seasonal decor item there, etc. Always a sweet and unexpected gesture.
I do that with my kids too and her gesture this trip made me reflect on that and appreciate her.
But the biggest reminder was when I was loading up for the airport. It was 6:30 AM and where do you think my mom was? She was at the car offering one last hug and a wave as we drove out of sight.
That’s me with my kids too, although, sometimes my kids refer to it as “stalking”. (They know they secretly love it!).
I am the best parts of my mom and I love that, and for some reason today, it feels important to let her know that.
It may not be Mother’s Day today, but shouldn’t every day be a day that you call or reach out to someone you love to say thank you or just hello?
If you no longer have your mom with you, I’m sorry. I’d love to hear what the BEST part of her was.
Love you Mom!

Thank you, Gabby! 🙂 My mom is a sweet lady and always so giving of herself. Give more than you have… that is how she has always lived. 🙂
